Very little natural slope, so the grade has to be built in before the seed goes down.

Why flat ground needs careful grading
Hydroseeding in Chandler is mostly done on flat ground, and flat ground has its own problems. The city sits at about 1,210 feet, and its highest point, at Veterans Oasis Park, is only 1,311 feet. With barely 100 feet of relief across the whole city, water does not drain on its own. A new lawn here lives or dies by how well the yard was graded before the seed went down.
Ranch land turned into neighborhoods
By 1900 A. J. Chandler had acquired about 18,000 acres on what became the Chandler Ranch. Suburban homes and businesses have since replaced most of the old agricultural plots, and the population has nearly doubled in the last twenty years. Field soil that was leveled for irrigation is often uniform and fine, which is good for grass seeding, but it can crust after rain or sprinklers and seal over young seed. A light hydromulch layer helps keep the surface open while seedlings push through.
Building in drainage
On a flat lot, we tilt the grade slightly so water leaves the foundation and heads for a retention area or the street, depending on the plan. That is dirt work, not seeding, but skipping it is the most common reason a new hydroseed lawn develops wet spots and dead patches. Our grading crews also handle trenching for drain lines when a yard needs one.
Summer heat and seed timing
Chandler's July mean daily maximum is 106 degrees and average precipitation is about 9.20 inches a year. With so little rain, the irrigation schedule after spraying is the most important part of the job. We set up a watering plan with you for the first few weeks and explain how to taper it off.
Freeway corridors and commercial work
Since 2003, the Price and Santan freeway corridors have drawn billions in investment and thousands of jobs. Commercial pads and business parks along those corridors need erosion control services during construction, then final seeding or hydromulch when the grading is done.
Typical Chandler work
- Fine grading and drainage on flat residential lots
- New lawn installation by hydroseed
- Silt fence and inlet protection on commercial pads
- Lawn renovation where crusting soil caused thin turf

Chandler Questions
My yard holds water after the sprinklers run. Can seeding fix that?
Seed will not fix it. The grade needs a slight fall so water moves off. We regrade first, then hydroseed.
Why does the soil in my Chandler yard form a crust?
Fine, leveled field soil tends to seal on top after watering. Hydromulch and gentle, frequent watering keep the surface soft for new seedlings.
Do you work on commercial sites along the freeways?
Yes. While the homes go up we keep silt fence standing and drains protected, then seed or hydromulch the ground once grading wraps up.
How much will I need to water after hydroseeding?
Several short cycles a day at first, then fewer, longer cycles as roots grow. We go over a schedule with you on site.
